Serious stuff now so please pay attention…..

On your arrival at registration in Calais we will need to see the following ORIGINAL documents that are valid until the end of your journey – so if you plan to drive back the documents should take you up to the last day of your trip or beyond.

Tax Disc:

Register your vehicle or else it could cost you more than you bargained for – as it says on the TV ads. If you scrap the car or decide to put it on SORN on return to the UK you can claim back for the unused portion of the tax. The UK laws are still valid in EU countries and beyond so you will only be causing yourself a larger fine if you do not comply – and it doesn’t matter how many letters your mum sends to David Cameron!

MOT Certificate:

This tells us your car is fit to drive on the roads of the UK. You will need to do a bit more to ensure it will get through the whole of this trip through Europe. We suggest a more extensive service and tune-up. Uprate the brakes if you can, upgrade the oil and invest in some better tyres. Either way, your starting point is the MOT and it must be valid until your return or disposal of the car.

V5 Log Book:

Once you have purchased the car you need to make sure it is registered to you. This takes anything up to 4 weeks with the DVLA although if you go to one of their offices it can be done quicker. The car must be registered in one of the team members names.

Insurance Certificate:

Very important on so many counts that it almost would be too much to mention here except that without a valid certificate you won’t be getting further than Calais. You also need to ensure that all members of the team that you want to drive are insured to drive – and it needs to be for overseas as well as UK. We do have an insurance company we use – we would be happy to recommend them but the choice is yours.

Drivers License:

Seems silly to say it here but you must hold a valid drivers license – as must any driver in your car. Any non-registered drivers need to have two photo Ids with them to be on the Rally – we can be arseholes about it so try to remember the ID!

IMPORTANT:

If you are not sure if your documentation fits the criteria then call us or email us. If you have the documents before departure you can send them electronically to us but you will still need to show us the originals at the registration evening.
